Ever used a comb on your hair, just to see it falling out like you just used a barber’s clipper? Experiencing hair shedding, whether your hair is natural, relaxed or transitioning, often indicates a need for protein treatment.

Since hair is primarily composed of keratin, a protein vital for its structure, texture, and growth, protein treatments are a highly effective solution for rejuvenating damaged hair experiencing protein loss. According to studies published in the National Library of Medicine, while a consistent intake of protein is needed for healthy hair, insufficient protein in your diet, frequent use of chemicals and heat styling tools can deplete your hair’s essential protein. This often results in hair that feels dry, looks dull, and is prone to breakage. Protein treatments are hightly recommended by dermatologists to help minimise breakage and bring back your hair’s vitality .

Here’s a straightforward, nourishing protein recipe you can make at home

This home-made protein treatement by napturally curly has all the essential natural ingredients your hair needs.

  • Two teaspoons of honey (optional for high porosity hair).
  • One egg, whisked
  • Two to three tablespoons of full-fat mayonnaise
  • One teaspoon of olive oil

Application

Since this mixture will be watery, use a hair applicator bottle to make the process much cleaner and easier.

  1. Divide your hair into at least four manageable sections.
  2. Apply the mixture thoroughly, making sure every strand, from root to tip, is coated.
  3. Cover your hair with a plastic cap and let the treatment work its magic for an hour or more.
  4. Rinse your hair completely with water.
  5. Then use your shampoo and conditioner to wash your hair.

Unfortunately, too much protein can harm your hair. Ensure there’s a minimum of 6 weeks between treatments to avoid protein overload.
